Legal Question in Family Law in California
Child custody release
My daughter, 21 has left her son 1 1/2 years old with me. She sees him maybe once every two weeks. I don't really want to take her to court right now, but I do need something giving me custody of him. How should I word a letter for her to sign, and should it be nortorized? Will this be legal or will I have problems with it, becuase it is not done through the court? Do you think I should file abandoment charges, and get custody that way? Thank you very much for any advice you can give me.
Sincerely,

Re: Child custody release
You should have this done through the court.

Re: Child custody release
There are fairly easy ways to do this. However, it really should be done through court, and can even be done with your daughter's permission. At a later date, should she become more responsible, you may agree to let her have the child back.
This is a tough situation, but you really should get this addressed in court as soon as you can. If you need help, please let me know at your earliest convenience.
