Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Custody

How do I get my 5-year-old son an attorney to represent him in the custody case so his best interests are considered. Also, how do I get the court to look at my evidence that I am mentally stable and have never had a drug issue since my 5-year-old son was born. Can somebody please help me see my son, whom I haven't seen in two years. The child's father took him and got custody when I was not yet diagnosed with mental illness. I now take medication and am stable, but have no money for an attorney. He has an attorney and won't let me see my son. The court didn't really listen to me or look at my paper evidence today.

I live in Sacramento and we go to a mediator he hired on Feb. 6th and we go back to court on March 26th. I need, help responding to his recent motion and I need help convincing the court that I never had a drug issue like he alleges.

Re: Child Custody

Contact the local law school and other agencies about a law clinic. Also the local family court may have a clinic to help those individuals that cannot afford an attorney. If your ex has a fairly high income you may be able to get the court to order that he pay your attorney fees. The local bar association may have a modest means panel of attorneys that you can get a referral to you.
