Legal Question in Family Law in California
Child Custody
I am 19 years old and want to get custody of my son. I have a good job and a home. The mother of my son is 18 and has a daughter from another man. She does not take care of the children, so I want to get custody of my son so he will have a good life with me. I just don't know how to go about getting custody of him. Please help me with this problem. I am currently living with my son's mother, that is why I know she does not take care of either child. Thank you.

Re: Child Custody
In order to have legal custody of your son determined by the court, you will need to file a paternity action to establish that you are the father of the child. Lving with your son's mother may be the best way to assure yourself that the child is taken care of adequately. Filing the paternity action may end the current living situation. It is probably best if the two of you take a parenting course to learn how to parent and co-parent the child(ren) and also get into some counseling so that you can learn to confront your girlfriend, in a loving manner, to help her become a better parent.
