Can you relocate out of state for a better job, without getting in trouble from the courts?

Yes, as long as it is done in good faith and not to frustrate the visitation rights of the other parent.

You can go anywhere you want. But if there is a child custody order in effect and the other parent does not agree to a change, then you will have to get a court order to relocate the child. If there is no order in effect, you will need to let the other parent know in writing of your intentions and let them know how to contact the child.
