If a child under 17yrs of age no longer wants to live with the only surviving parent does that child lose the deceased parents Social Security income upon emancipation (hope I am wording this correctly

Emancipation of a minor requires that the minor fill out and file with the court a petition to be emancipated. The judeg will not sign the emancipation petition unless the minor has the ability to support themself. These forms are simple enough that the minor should be able to fill them out without legal assistance. As to the Social Security that is a specialized field. You should call Social Security and discuss it with them. My feeling is that the social security payment would continue until the 18th birthday or perhaps later if the individual is attending college.
