The facts that you have provided are not clear enough and/or complete enough to provide a definitive answer to you inquiry. Where is the child . . . Texas or California? What court granted the guardianship? In California all relatives within the second degree must be given "notice" and an "opportunity to be heard." That includes living parents and all living grand-parents. Contact an experienced Family Law attorney in the county where the child resides for specific advice and possible representation on your behalf. As a grand-parent you have rights which may have been violated.

Call the police. Call Child Protective Services. Hire a good family lawyer.

Basil did it again the perfect answer. Basil and I are friends. 5 hr drive versus getting your child out of a horrible situation? Call everyone and hope the child is not a perpetual liar. Sometimes children lie just to get attention. No allegation should ever be ignored because any one might be true. You might also look at the court file, how did the grandparents get custody without notification to the father. This may be a case with real problems. Feel free to call if you want to talk further.
