My friend lock a 14 years old girl in car for 15 minuets.Has been arrested and the criminal charges dropped. The Social Services took custody of the child. Now she has to try to get the baby back. The mother will appear in court in few days.Is it better to plea guilty or not? Is it better to hire a defender or to stay with the public defender appointed ?

Re: child neglect

You stated that the charges had been dropped but now your friend has to appear in court to plead guilty or not guilty. This means that the charges have not been dropped and the next court date is an arraignment instead of a child custody matter. If your friend is facing criminal charges, then the benefit of hiring a private defense attorney is that they will have more time to devote to your case.

If your friend is serious about representation, have her contact our office.

Best of Luck!

Re: child neglect

It is very rarely ever a good idea to plead guilty. She should retain legal counsel.

Re: child neglect

Your question does not make sense. How do you lock a 14 year old in a car? Barring unusual circumstances leaving a 14 year old in a car should not be a problem. If your friend is involved with CPS she should seek an attorney to represent her before she admits anything.

Hire an attorney if your friend can afford it.
