Legal Question in Family Law in California

my child

What rights do I have as a father if my baby was born premature and I was excluded from the birth certificate? I have full intentions of being in this child's life and I plan to provide for him as well. I'm not sure what the reason was as to why I was excluded from the birth certificate but I would like to be added onto the birth certificate. Not just with my last name for the baby but mentioned as the father as well. Is there anything I can do?

Re: my child

You will need to file an action to establish your paternity (fatherhood) of the child. At that time you will have the rights of a parent which is not gender specific and does not vary from a parent who was married to the other parent. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
