Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child support after adoption

Am I required by California Law to continue paying monthly child support after the child has been adopted by my sister? My Parental Rights were severed long before she adopted him. My wages are being garnished for what I thought was the Past Due amount plus Interest on that amount. Now, I just noticed that they are still charging me for current monthly child support every month. What can I do?

Re: Child support after adoption

Once the parental rights are terminated to allow adoption the duty to pay child support ceases. You should check to determine if the wage assignment is for current support or unpaid support. If the support is for current support then petition the court that made the order to terminate it.
