Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support Arrears Only

How do I go about collecting non welfare arrears, my son is 18, graduated from high school June 06. I agreed to cancel case with L.A. county child support dept. because non-custodial parent agreed to pay direct. He was in arrears $34,000, he signed a written contract that he would pay $510 toward child college expenses until June 09 in lieu of the $34,000. Son started college Fall 06, non custodial parent paid from Sept and Oct, stated he will not pay the rest. The child support agency stated they will not handle non welfare arrear cases. Can I go to Superior Court and get a wage assignment?

Re: Child Support Arrears Only

You have many options for collection. Does Dad own a home that could be foreclosed on, or a vehicle that could be seized and sold. Or you could get a wage garnishment or attache his bank account. Talk to an attorney who does child support colletion. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
