Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support Arrears

My ex-husband owes me over 20,000 in back child support and he owns a home with his new wife. I've been told by the local child support agency that a lien has been put on his property. From what I understand, this lien on his property inhibits him from selling or refinancing this property until the arrears balance is satisifed. Is this correct?

That is correct. However, I recently taught a seminar in collection of Child Support at the local court. There are several options

that you have. One of those options may be to foreclose on the house with your child support judgment. If you wish the funds earlier, you may wish to talk to an attorney. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
