Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child support arrears

I have been offered a 18,000 dollar lump sum payment on child support arrears and interest owed since 1976. Los Angeles D. A. has been collecting, the total owed is 30,992.58, and I have been receiving $450/mo. I was told by an attorney representing my ex if I don't accept settlement we would return to court and they would ask for decrease in payments, and have the total decreased by 11,000. Is is wise for me to accept a settlement.

Re: Child support arrears

The arrears that are owed cannot be decreased unless the figure that you have been given by the DCSS is incorrect. Ask the attorney for your ex to explain how he would decrease the total amount owing, unless he says the calculation is incorrect, he doesn't have grounds to decrease the amount.
