Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child support arrears

My rights were assigned to the D.A.'s office in CA. when my child was born. I was on AFDC on and off for periods of time. They instructed me to comply with them and come in and update my case approximately twice a year. 13 years later I moved to AZ where I became ill and was dying. AZ contacted CA and within 2 weeks the father was served in CA. My question is ''back child support'' ???? I was informed the state can go back 3 years and collect. CA says ''it's AZ's case, and AZ says it's CA case''. When my child turned 18 payments or course stopped with no intention of helping get back child support. What's the law on collecting?

Re: Child support arrears

You can enforce the order yourself, but you will need a copy of the orders made in the California case and in the AZ case if it was modified in AZ. I recently taught a seminar in collection of Child Support at the local court. There are several options

that you have. You may wish to call me. With copies of those orders I can advise you of your options. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
