Legal Question in Family Law in California
Child Support Calculation Nuances
I have two kids & my ex & I share 50% custody. My ex wife just started a job as a teacher in Los Angeles after being unemployed since our divorce. She is making about $45K/year and received a $5k signing bonus. Also, in CA, teachers are expemt from state taxes after a year. How will this affect my child support. Also, her house is completely paid off, but I just bought a house neary the kid's schools but I pay almost 50% of my after tax I/C on my mortgage. Is this a consideration in calculating the DisoMaster support I pay.

Yes, those changes sound significant enough to justify going to court and asking for modification.
Re: Child Support Calculation Nuances
Your ex-wife's new job make a significant change in the child support calculation. Child support is based upon three factors, income of mother, income of father and the time spent with each parent. Since there is a significant change in the mother's income, there is a significant change in circumstances and there should be a major change in the child support. You may wish to review my web site www.californiachildsupport.com to get more information. Your mortgage will affect the calculation, but not favorable since it is a tax deduction and therefore increases your takehome pay, but this has a relatively minor effect. Run, don't walk, to a child support attorney in the county where your dissolution is filed. Every day you wait it is costing you money. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
