Legal Question in Family Law in California
Child support from the Catholic Church?
I am the son of a Catholic priest. I would like to keep my name anonymous for now for the fear of repercussions against my family and my father, and the Church. I am seeking the financial assistance of the Claretian Missianary Fathers and the Catholic Church.
My father is an incredible man, and although he has always been a part of my life, I only recently learned he is my biological father. My father has been emotionally supportive of me throughout my life. My father has raised many, many, millions of dollars for the Claretians and for the Church. He has not however been a financial support to my mother or me. My mother has struggled most of her life to raise me, and she's done a fine job. She is now in failing health, as is my father. I am seeking financial compensation for the loss of parental support, and emotional trauma due to my father's vocation.
Do I have any options available to me in seeking this remedy. I would like to keep these matters private and avoid the public and legal avenues I have pursued. I would like to to understand if the courts have made other rulings on the church and child support.
Thank you and I look forward to your response.

Re: Child support from the Catholic Church?
It doesn't matter if your father is a priest or a mailman, a basketball player or a lawyer. California law provides that a father is legally obligated to support his minor children. The obligation is his, not his employer's.
