Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support is chasing after 3 years

I had a marital settlement agreement that included me paying $500 p/month to my ex for support for 8 months until my son reached 18 yrs. It is now 3 years later and my ex went to Child Support Agency to have them collect on his behalf. When I drafted the marital settlement agreement, there was no issue of receipts or acknowledgment that if either party objected, that we could have the agreement challenged. My ex didn't say a word until 3 years later when he decided he wanted more. I don't have receipts after 3 years. I didn't know I needed anything! Also, I paid my son (being 17 1/2 at the time) money for assistance. I have made an offer but to date, he has not responded. What are my options in challenging the child support agency and my ex? Will he require hiring a lawyer to defend his position?

It appears someone is trying to pull a fast one on you. Contact an attorney to discuss this matter and take him/her all your papers to review and to resolve this matter. Appears bogus. Don Holben 800-685-6950

This does not sound like child support at all. It is spousal support measured by the age of the child. Therefore, child support enforcement should not be involved. Call whoever is on the case there, point this out, and send them your settlement agreement. If that doesn't work, get a family law attorney and take him/them to court for contempt and for an injunction against collection.
