Legal Question in Family Law in California

What does child support cover?

My fiance is paying about $3000/mo. child support for 3 children in CA. The mother is now asking for additional money to pay for ''extra curricular activities''. Doesn't the regular child support payment cover these things? He also already buys the kids clothes, school supplies, etc. without asking for extra money - should we keep receipts?

Re: What does child support cover?

Receipts and canceled checks for all payment of child support and extra purchases should be kept. Child support is due until payable. Banks keep records only 7 years. If she claims unpaid child support for years further back than 7 years he will need proof of payment. Before refusing to pay additional costs he should consult with an attorney regarding amount of child support he should be paying. That way he will be able to determine the least expensive course of action. Your income will be used for the purpose of determining the amount of taxes he pays. Often the addition of the new spouse income reduces the amount of child support that must be paid. He should contact an attorney in the county where mother lives and ask the attorney to prepare a support calculation. To prepare this calculation the attorney will need to have information regarding his income mother's income, interest and taxes paid by each of them for their homes. Other expenses such as medical insurance payments mandatory retirement and any other financial information he may have.
