Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support

Our daughter is owed over $95,000 in back child support. Non custodial parent fled country and currently runs his own production company with his new wife. Can a citizen file a complaint in Federal Court against him to collect the back child support and ask the federal system to punish him under the deadbeat punishment act if he does not pay? What else can be done.

Any suggestions.

Re: Child Support

He can be punished under the federal law you mentioned, and his passport can be revoked, but this will not necessarily make him pay. If I were you I would hire a lawyer on a contingency fee basis to collect the money. The steps such a lawyer would take might include impounding the funds in the US which are payable to the production company.

Re: Child Support

Contact the nearest U.S. attorney and report the situation. The US attorney can obtain a warrant for his arrest and have him brought back to that location for trial. He would be charged with a felony and would be on probation with a condition that he pay the child support arrears.
