Legal Question in Family Law in California

When can child support end?

My son will be 18 in 6 months and will enter 12th grade in 7 months. However, he has been failing school to the point of having to go to ''Continuation'' or ''Adult'' school in order to get his GED. I haven't seen him do his homework since he was in 6th or 7th grade. He even failed 8th grade but had to be ''socially'' promoted. I don't think he'll pass anything, so I was wondering WHEN can the child support stop??? If he goes to Continuation do I have to still pay? If he goes to Adult school, do I have to still pay? (And, until he's 19 or June 2007?)

Re: When can child support end?

you are obligated to pay until his 18th Bday unless he is attending high school. It is over when he leaves high school or turns 19 whichever is first. I think the continuation schools run by the high school district are considered high school but the adult education school (on Lewis Rd in Santa Rosa) is not. I have heard of parents prorating the last month that support ends. Support is supposed to end automatically but if there is a wage assignment I would check with my employer to make sure they know and don't want you to get a court order.
