Legal Question in Family Law in California
child support
How much does a father have to pay in child support if the wife gets custody of the child? Is there a percentage of his income that he has to pay per the law?

Guideline child support in California is calculated by using a specific software that takes into consideration a number of variables. This calculation is available at any family law attorney's office as well as various locations on the internet including my web site.

Re: child support
The courts in California are mandated to award child support pursuant to guidelines issued by the Legislature. The calculation is basically an algebraic formula which takes into account the number of children, timeshare, the parties incomes and other relevant factors. Although it is possible to calculate the amount manually, it is not advisable. The usual procedure is to use approved software which most competent family law attorneys have readily available. The "fight" in court is usually about the timeshare as that is a critical element in the calculations. If you intend to seek a modification you really should seek the assistance of an attorney.I hope the above is helpful. Regards, Damian M. Nolan.
Re: child support
In California child support is based on the income of the parents, the number of children, and the percent of time the children are with each parent. A computer program is used to determine the support. This program determines the after tax income of the parents. This number is used to calulate the support.
