Legal Question in Family Law in California
Child Support
I want to file in LA Superior Court (family court) to establish paternity and I understand the benifits of doing that - I am presently subject to a support order through the DA's Office - a different kind of court which does not deal with paternity/custody/visitation issues...
Will the DA's support payment be a conflict for my family court application? How should I mention it? Thank you MJ

Re: Child Support
You will need to file an Order To Show Cause for custody and visitation. If you have not been a part of the child's life, then it is likely that you will receive a "phased-in" visitation schedule.
In any event, you should seek such orders, and in so doing, your support will be lowered.

Your question is somewhat confusing as I can not tell if the two cases are for the same child or different children. If the DA case requires you to pay child suppport, then paternity has been established. Custody and visitation are separate issues that will have an effect upon child support, and as a result, should be considered in tandem.
For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
