Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support

My ex husband who started paying child support after 9 years and is in arrears wants me to lift the support order so he and his new wife can buy a house. He has only been paying support for 2 months at the amount of $270.00 per child. I have two boys ages 13 and 15 and have raised them on my own for nearly 12 years, and have managed to do so on minimum wage and alot of hours. He says after he puts the house in his name I can attach a lien, which doesn't sound like it will benefit my boys at all. What should I tell him? I am curious if something like this could make matters worse for me. He resides in Washington. He just now contacted us after 5 years. We had no idea where he was and never made any attempt to contact his sons all of this time. Yeah, a real winner.

Re: Child Support

You would have to contact an attorney in Washington that can tell you whether what he is requesting can be accomplished. If you are interested tell him you will need to retain an attorney to advise you and he will need to pay for the attorney. You should have your support order modified to current guidelines so that you are getting an appropriate amount of support. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
