Changes in Child Support

I live in CA and am considering marrying someone that has been paying child support for his children. Would his ex have access to my income once we get married?

Re: Changes in Child Support

No. New spouse income is considered only for tax purposes, as it effects your potential spouse's tax bracket. His ex is not entitled to see your paystubs, etc. However, the ex is entitled to obtain copies of his tax returns, so if you file jointly, she will see that.

Re: Changes in Child Support

The general rule is that new spouse income is not liable for child support. The new spouse income is considered only to the extent that is put into support calculation only for the purpose of determining the amount of taxes paid by the parent. There may be some unusual circumstances by which the court could order your income use to pay support. Keep your income in a separate bank account. Any account with both of your names could be attached to pay support. You should consult with an attorney regarding this matter .
