Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child support modification

I was divorced 3 years ago and did not have an attorney. I gave my ex-wife both children and head of household as tax-writeoffs. Child-support was set at $600- per month (not including my 1/2 of daycare and other extras)- At the time I was earning 4,000 per month and my wife earned 3,000 per month. Since then, my income has increased to $4,500 while hers has doubled and possibly tripled. I want to have the amount modified, and if possible would like to actually receive support- I have consulted with an attorney who agreed this was possible, but wanted an immediate 2,000 retainer. I am not in a position to pay that kind of money right now...Is there anything I can do to temporarily stop the child support (fairly inexpensively, until a hearing for modification can be set?

How much lower can I expect my child support to be?

Please advise- thanks

Re: Child support modification

You can ask the facilitator's office to assist you in preparing a motion, but you would be representing yourself. My fees for a simple modification are $1250, plus filing fees and require one half down and payments, or will accept credit cards. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
