Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support help needed

I lived in CA back in 1996 where there was a court order for my ex-boyfriend to pay child support for his daughter. For awhile it was coming then it stopped. I got married and am now living in PA, and my ex is now living in Oregon. My child support case is still in CA although neither of us live there. I was told my my caseworker it was best to leave it in CA because there was no statute of limitations there. I have not gotten any payments in several years and both the state of CA and myself are each owed nearly 20,000. Should I leave my case in CA, it seems like they are not doing anything!

Re: Child Support help needed

When you say "nothing is happening", that infers that someone is supposed to be doing something. Is this being handled by the Child Support Services (which took over from the DA)?

You can also retain counsel in OR to register the CA judgment and collect there. OR may apply CA law as regards statute of limitations.

If you don't keep it in CA, you'll have to use OR, since PA does not have in personum jurisdiction over him. You might be able to have the PA DA enforce the CA order by having PA contact the DA in OR.

Sorry for all the abbreviations.
