Legal Question in Family Law in California

when does child support payments stop

My case is in the california courts. Has there been a recent law change specifying when child support payments are supposed to stop? Someone told me a new law states that if the child is in college and still living at home, then child support must continue. What is actually the current law on when to stop making the payments?

Thank you,

Re: when does child support payments stop

There has been no recent change in the date for termination of the court's jurisdiction for child support. Child support runs until the child reaches age 18, or if still in high school, until the child is out of high school or turns 19, whichever occurs first. Pat McCrary

ABSENT SOMETHING TO THE CONTRARY IN YOUR PARTICULAR JUDGMENT, child support ceases when a child turns 18 unless that child remains living with a parent while a full time high school student, in which case child support extends to age 19 or completion of the 12th grade. You should have your divorce judgment reviewed by an experienced family law attorney as soon as possible.

Good luck to you.

Greetings:

Child support (In the state of California) is until 18 or 19 if the child is still a full time high school student. There has been no change in the child support laws regarding college.
