Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child Support promissary letter legalities

My ex-wife wants to rent a two bedroom apartment, but her income doesn't meet the requirement. We have joint custody of our kids and I have 90% physical custody per divorce decree. I am planning to bring them to her for the summer. She wants a letter signed by me stating that I will pay $800 to help her get an apartment, yet we have agreed that I would pay $400 while the kids are with her. I am not collecting child support from her now. Can She or the apartment legally bind me to a letter? Thank you for any comments you may have about my situation

Re: Child Support promissary letter legalities

If you send such a letter you should be prepared to pay the $800. If you concoct some other scheme to trick the apartment into thinking she has that income and the apartment rents to her and then she cannot make the rent payment would be fraud - and you can be required to pay the money. Maybe you could co-sign with her on the apartment for the sake of the kids??? Tell the apartment that you will co-sign for the first 3-6 months only so they have some protection.....
