Legal Question in Family Law in California

when does child support rerally End?

I read on a legal site that child support does not end at 18 but 19. I have also been told that the supporting parent needs to file something to legally end child support, not just stoping the payments. What is the truth?

Re: when does child support rerally End?

All of the answers are correct in some cases. The general rule is that child support terminates when a child turns 18. However, if the child is a full time student in high school then child support continues until the child is no longer a full time high school student or turns 19, which ever occurs first. If there is a wage assignment and the other parent will not withdraw the wage assignment that a court order will be required. There are some other instances in which a court order could be required to stop child support.
