Legal Question in Family Law in California

child support usage

In California, what is child support supposed to cover. My stepson's mother receives approx 1000/mo in child support, even though we have child 45% of the time, and she is refusing to get him haircuts and buy clothes because she states this is our responsibility, or at minimum a shared responsbility. This is confusing for us....we're not sure what we should be paying for and what we shouldn't. Thanks.

Re: child support usage

In California child support is for the purpose reimbursing the other parent for costs of providing care for the child. You should consult with an attorney regarding whether or not it is advisable to request a change of child support. Your question cannot be answered with the information which you provided. You should gather your financial records and all of the information about mother's financial information you have available. The attorney can then run a dissomaster calculation to get a better idea of the results of a motion to modify child support. You do not want to file a motion hoping to reduce child support and have the court increase it. Which often occurs when a motion if filed without running a dissomaster.
