Legal Question in Family Law in California
Child support
I have a 17 year old son whose father disappeared to his native country when I was pregnant. So I went back to my country and gave birth to my son. So many years have passed and we didn't contact with each other. Now I am back here again married. And I lately found out that my son's natural father is in the states, too. I think he has lived in the states for quite some years already. I don't know what I should do or what I can do. My question is that does the law require my son's natural father pay child support and college fee if my son goes to college?

Re: Child support
The father would be required to pay child support until you son turns 18. He is not required to pay for his costs for a college education. Depending on the circumstances you may want to contact his father and discuss the issue of child support and helping him with his college education. He may be willing to provide financial assistance for his college even though not legally required to do so.
