if a child support?custody agreemwnt was filed in one state but I moved and now need to file an adjustment for child support do I have to return to the state it was filed in?

Yes, unless the other parent has moved to a new state too. In that case you can petition the original court to send the case to the child's new home state.

You must file the modification in the state of the original order or in the state of the other parent. There are limited circumstances in which you may modify child support in the state where the child lives, if that is different than the state of the other parent. Child custody would be modified in the state where the child lives, after the child has been there for 6 months. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
