Legal Question in Family Law in California

child visitation

Can a 16-year old chose to violate a visitation order by not showing up when I am ready to pick him up or stake off before the time is up?

Can his father, who he lives with be held in contempt? We both have 50/50 legal custody, but my son is refusing to comply witht he visitation order I got./ Please help. What can I do?

Re: child visitation

I am surprised that you have a visitation order with regard to a 16-year old. Usually, when the kids become teen-agers, it is left up to the child's discretion as to whom he wants to stay with, or whether he wants to go for visitation with the other parent.

I would highly recommend that you tell the 16-year old that if he doesn't want to come to your place, maybe you could just pick him up for dinner several times a week instead.
