Legal Question in Family Law in California

Childrens Rights

My son has a step child that he has not adopted. He has been her father for 13 years. She will be 14 this month. They are now divorced, with joint custody of their child, plus agreed joint responsibility of the older child. Her mom has threaten my son (several times) that she will take the child away as he is not her father. Does he have any rights? Can the child choose to be with/see my son?

If the mother has received a lump sum of money from the biological father, is my son entitled to half of it? He shares support financially and emotionally for both girls.

Thank you.
