There are some other events that terminate child support that the other attorneys have not thought of: You marry the mother and reside with her; you get primary custody of the child; You rescind your US citizenship and become the citizen of another country that does not give comity to US child support orders, and you move to that country.

Re: child-support when does it stop?

Child support generally continues until the minor child has attained the age of 18 years unless the minor child is a full-time high school student and is not self-supporting, in which case the support will continue until the time that the minor child completes the 12th grade or attains the age of 19 years, whichever occurs first.

Both and neither. It continues until 18, unless at that time the child is still attending secondary school, in which event it continues until the child reaches the age of 19, or ceases attending secondary school, whichever shall first occur. Not all kids turn 18 the month they graduate, a fact it only took many, many years for the legislature to recognize. Maybe they did not graduate.

Additionally, there is emancipation, or marriage, or death, all of which terminate child support.
