Legal Question in Family Law in California

My daughter for whom this back childsupport is pertaining to is 23 years old.She has been married since 18.She lived with me untill she was 14.During that time her father paid me no support.She went to live with her father from 14 to 17.I still provided her with clothes,school supplies,ect.I am now having my wages garished for back support they say is owed to her father(approx.23thousand)He had her 3yrs.I had her 14.He has never paid me a penny.There is more but thats as short as I can get.I am single barely getting by.What can I do?

If there was no child support order they cannot collect child support. It appears that there must have been a modification or a new order. Your should obtain all orders in the court file with respect to child support and have those reviewed by an attorney. You can have any support that he owed you offset against support that you owe him. It sounds like you cannot afford not to have an attorney. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
