what are the legal documents i need to go to court to obtain full custody of my son?

Getting or changing custody takes a lot more than just "legal documents" and while I can only speak to Texas law I'm sure California law is no less complex and demanding. You need a good California family law attorney in the county where you are going to be attempting to get custody.
