A marriage of 10 years or more is considered a long term marriage. In setting spousal support the court is to consider the supported spouses need, and the ability of the other spouse to pay that support. Such support must continue until the court makes a finding that the supported spouse can adequately support herself. In gauging the ability to support herself the court must consider the standard of living during the marriage and the assets of the spouse paying support.
