Legal Question in Family Law in California

Cohabitation effects support?

No spousal support issued at time of divorce because of similar pay. Only child support. Ex-spouse now in cohabitive relationship. Original child support very small. Now child support for ''out of school and after school expenses'' increased significantly because ex-spouse changes jobs = more money. AND I believe now ex is sharing finances with cohabitive lover. Court kept right to reopen case for spousal support until end of year. Any merits to petitioning for reopening divorce settlement?

Re: Cohabitation effects support?

You should talk to an attorney and let him review your current order and also your financial situation. It sounds like you should receive an increase in child support.

Spousal support considers many different factors besides income, and therefore you will need to review all of those factors with the attorney. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
