is a Colorado common law marriage started in 1972 legal in California now?

If Colorado recognizes common law marriage and you perfected that relationship in that jurisdiction, California will honor that relationship based upon family law rules in California. . California does not independently have common-law marriage but if this form if marriage is legitimate coming from another jurisdiction California will legally recognize that marital relationship.

Colorado recognizes common law marriage, and California recognizes common law marriages entered into lawfully elsewhere. You need to be sure, however, that you complied with the requirements in Colorado to have a common law marriage.
