Legal Question in Family Law in California

Common law marriage

How long do you have to live with someone as husband or wife in the state of California for it to be a common law marriage, and what inheritance rights do you have if one or the other passes away? I would very much appreciate it if you could get back with me.

Re: Common law marriage

California does not have a provision for common-law marriage. It does however, recognize valid common-law marriages from other states. Thus a couple that lived together in say Texas and fulfilled the common-law marriage requirements, would be married. That marriage would be recognized in California.
