Legal Question in Family Law in California

community property his/mine

My husband and I have been married about 4 yrs. He owned the house we live in prior to the marriage. The car I drive was his prior to the marriage. The car he drives was purchased during the marriage. I have had sporatic jobs. He has been consistently employed. Many purchases have been made: electronic equipment ,furniture, exotic birds, etc. Since he has been the main breadwinner, what am I entitled to in the event of a divorce? (Since I have not been a consistent financial contributor)

Re: community property his/mine

You are entitled to one-half the property and one-half the debts incurred after marriage, before separation. The $ he earned is community property. You may have some interest in the house, but it will likely be minimal (the formula is tied to how much the principle loan was decreased during the marriage using community funds). This may or may not apply to the car you drive.
