Community Property Laws

If my parents were married in California in 1970; Do community property laws apply to them? Whne did community porperty laws become effective in california?

Reply: Community Property Laws

California has been a community property state since before your parents were married. It really does not matter where they were married, it simply matters where they file for divorce. If they file in California, then Califoria law will apply to them no matter where they were or when they were married.
