Community Property

My wife and I have been seperated for one year. She is living in the home that we own together. I have been splitting the house payment for the past year without the benefit of living in the home. We have had the house on the market for nearly a year but have not sold yet. When can I stop paying for the house.

I assume that you are paying a portion of the mortgage because she is unable to pay the entire mortgage. If that is correct then your payment is saving a major asset and is worth the sacrifice. However, if your are paying support in addition to the mortgage payment you should investigate the possibility of receiving a credit for these payments. You should consult with an attorney to review all of the facts.
