Community Propery Settlements

I just went through a divorce settlement. The judge Ordered that the stock must be split 50/50 with my ex-wife. The legal separation date was April,10th,1997. At this date I was no longer legally responcible for any debts she would incure. Does that mean we slipt the stock up to April,10th,1997 or to the present date? I,m getting mixed input from lawers as no one really knows for sure. Thankyou for any input you can give me.
