Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am completing a preliminary DOD and am uncertain, do I fill in the bank account balances at date of separation or current? My soon-to-be ex used today's date on his DOD. BUT when we separated there were tens of thousands of dollars in the bank account. I left it all behind. I have the statements showing the money was there. So I hesitate to put down today's balance as the asset when previously there was a lot of money.

You use current balances. That does not preclude you from claiming a right to a balancing payment out of the remaining assets for money he took.

I should also mention that it is permissible to put an entry on the disclosure for a debt owed the community from the X2B for the money he or she took.
