Legal Question in Family Law in California

conflict of interest

My husbands ex-wife is trying to go after him in a civil case regarding a low amount of back child support she works for attorneys that specilize in Unemployment cases. They have sent us something that says they are going to represent her. Is is a conflict of interest if she works for them and is it ethical for them to do so?

Re: conflict of interest

There is no conflict of interest. There is also, from a legal standpoint, no "low amount of back child support". California (and Federal) law takes compliance with child support orders very seriously and facilitates collection of current or past-due payment amounts.

Unfortunately for your husband, getting help for one's legal problems can be one of the fringe benefits of working for a law firm.

Re: conflict of interest

No, it is not a conflict of interest for her employers to represent her. If it is a low amount you are better off just paying the back due child support. Good Luck, Pat McCary
