Legal Question in Family Law in California

Contempt

In a hearing based on Order to Show Cause Re: contempt for failure to pay spousal support when there are no children involved what is the basis for defining ability to pay. What reasonable living expenses are allowed in order to show the inability to pay. Will proof that only reasonable living expenses were paid from the income and the balance of the income was paid as support but was less than the amount ordered.
