Legal Question in Family Law in California

contesting state placed adoption

My grandson is a ward of the State, and I want custody of him. The state has approved

his Aunt for pre-adoption. What forms do I need to contest this, and what can I do before I hire an Attorney?

We are very close and he told the Social Worker he wanted

to live in my home. I have him every weekend, for the last 2 years and he is 6yrs. Hw was living with the Aunt in

Temp. Placement.

Re: contesting state placed adoption

The mother or father of the grandchild should petition the court to place the child with you. The preference in these cases is to find a home in which the child will remain pending either reunification of the child with one or more parents or the parental rights are terminated. The goal is for the child to have parents and a home to live in. So you must be willing and able to adopt the child. Your best approach may be to continue with the visitation and maintain a good realtion with the aunt that is the prospective parent.
