You should consult the court order to determine what the rules are in regards to overnights. If the father has been out of the picture for a long time, then you will need to object because an overnight is not proper for a parent who has no relationship to the child. A trip to the grandparents is fine, but the parent must still be ultimately responsible for the care and custody of the child when they are at the grandparents. If the child is young then they would need more direct supervision.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
