Legal Question in Family Law in California
Would the courts assign an income based on past employment? My ex quit a 6 figure job to start a franchise and now claiming income less than half what she made and looking for child support modification.

The term is "impute." The courts can impute a higher income to a spouse or party based on past income.

If your ex voluntarily quit her job without justification then the court cord impute to her the same income she made from that past job. This area of the law is complicated. Please meet with an experienced family law attorney to review your case and explore your legal options.
